Covering leads:
Each issue it is imperative that all leads are contacted to give them a chance of featuring in the issue on which you are currently working. Each executive will have his or her own sector/patch based on an alphabet split system implemented by the manager.
Advertising executives are expected to ensure all companies that are relevant to editorial subject matter are contacted and made aware of the features available.
Creation of leads:
Each executive will be responsible for ‘growing’ and maintaining their sector of the alphabet split. This will mean that they are expected to go through competitor publications each month and contact any new leads within their split. It will be their responsibility to keep abreast of any changes within their marketplace.
Adhering to definite deadlines:
Advertising executives are expected to know the deadline of each issue and ensure that all their duties are carried out in time for the magazine to fill it’s deadline, this will include: Providing copy to the studio – to the correct specifications – copy chasing and making sure that every client with an advertisement booked has been contacted and informed of the date by which copy is required.
Ensuring space is filled by the deadline and all importantly where possible targets are met.
Administration:
Each executive is expected to handle their own administration pertaining to their bookings and their leads. This will include booking confirmations, booking onto the log sheets, updating files, copy production and any other duties that are seen as relevant and reasonable.
Company representation:
Each advertising executive will be asked where necessary to attend exhibitions relevant to their magazine. This in some cases will require staying away from home this will be at the expense of the company. Where the show/exhibition takes place over a weekend the employee will be entitled to one lieu day each for Saturday and Sunday in place of payment.
It may also be important on occasion for the executive to meet with clients face to face either at exhibitions or other locations. This would be with the purpose of securing more advertising or a more advanced promotional package.
On these occasions employees are expected to conduct themselves with the utmost professionalism, ensure that their appearance is tidy and generally represent the company in a way, which reflects the professional ethos of the employer as a whole.
Support to the manager:
An executive will be expected to create a working support to the manager they work with, whereby they may on occasion be asked to help with extra administrative duties or oversee certain practices such as passing for press.
