Deputy Manager – Children’s Home

Job Description:

As the Deputy Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective day-to-day running of the residential home. You will be responsible for leading a team of staff, managing work allocations, and maintaining direct involvement in working with the children as needed. Additionally, you will oversee all aspects of the residential premises, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for the children in your care.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

  • Support the Registered Manager in ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as the Deputy Manager in the absence of the Registered Manager, assuming responsibility for the smooth operation of the children's home.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare and development of the young people, ensuring a discrimination-free environment and challenging discrimination from external sources.
  • Meet the individual needs of each child while fostering a sense of belonging within the group.
  • Create a safe and sensitive environment that supports the well-being of the children.
  • Collaborate with the manager and the team to ensure welcoming admissions and transitions for the children.
  • Provide support to the team and implement strategies for managing stressful situations or crises.
  • Work with the manager and the team to achieve positive outcomes for the children.

Care Planning and Case Management:

  • Oversee the development, monitoring, and implementation of individual care plans and case files.
  • Support the manager in conducting regular reviews of care plans by key workers.
  • Foster and maintain effective relationships with parents, social workers, schools, and other professionals involved in the welfare of the children.
  • Ensure the specific needs of the children, including religious observance, cultural requirements, dietary considerations, and medical conditions, are met.

Staff Supervision and Compliance:

  • Ensure that staff members uphold professional standards and act in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain adherence to risk assessments and all relevant regulations.
  • Implement a 'rolling Rota' system to provide staff members with exposure to different working methods.
  • Monitor the Daily Logbook for messages and ensure timely completion of incident/accident forms or restraint forms, as applicable.
  • Familiarize staff with Local Authority Child Protection Procedures and the company's 'Safer Caring and Child Protection Procedures.'
  • Report any Child Protection matters to the Registered Manager promptly.
  • Promote staff awareness of care policies, guidance notes, and confidentiality requirements.

Training and Development:

  • Ensure that staff members under your supervision complete the required training according to their induction schedule and Personal Development Plan.
  • Fulfill on-call duties as needed, in line with the management Rota.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in working hours to meet the demands of the role.
  • Conduct supervisions with senior support workers and compile Rotas during the Registered Manager's absence.
  • Uphold Health and Safety regulations concerning the premises and its surroundings.
  • Undertake additional duties as reasonably requested.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children, remaining aware of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Allocate a minimum of 16 care hours as part of your role, as agreed with the Registered Manager.
  • Champion and adhere to the Company's Equalities, Inclusion, and Diversity Policy.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience in a senior role within a residential children's home setting.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong leadership and management abilities, with the capacity to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Effective crisis management and decision-making capabilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep understanding of safeguarding principles and a commitment to promoting the welfare of children.
  • Flexibility to work on a shift basis, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
