Family Legal Secretary – Colchester

TopJob recruitment are looking for an experienced Legal Secretary to join our Family Team on a temporary basis in Colchester.

The Team: This is an excellent opportunity to join our Colchester office to work in a successful and driven, but caring and sympathetic, Legal 500 recommended Family team. The successful candidates will be joining a team of exceptional lawyers and support staff that work on a wide-ranging caseload and in conjunction with other departments within the firm to ensure client satisfaction.

The firm is a LEXCEL accredited, Legal 500 recommended practice with 17 Legal 500 recommended lawyers. The firm has a long history in North Essex and has ambitious plans to grow further over the next three years.

You will be a team player, fast, accurate and willing to go the extra mile, and already used to supporting a very busy individual lawyer and/or a wider team.

Client satisfaction will be a key driver for you and you will need the willingness and capability to assist the team leader in ensuring client problems are solved efficiently and effectively and value is added to the service provided. You will have experience of:

  • The preparation of correspondence and complex legal documents
  • Audio typing from digital dictation
  • Diary management
  • Photocopying and scanning
  • File and case management, bill preparation
  • Ensuring all new business opportunities are processed in an efficient manner
  • Meet and greet clients when required
  • Providing full secretarial support and general administrative assistance
  • Opening, closing and archiving files
  • Building and maintaining knowledge of clients and their matters, and the work in general

You will have significant and current experience working within a private client team. Ideally have worked within a Family Team in the last 12 month. You will have a professional attitude and outlook, be discreet and appreciating the absolute confidentiality of everything you do.

You will:

  • Hold the respect and confidence of your colleagues

  • Demonstrate a pro-active approach to your work
  • Be very well organised and able to prioritise
  • Have excellent attention to detail
  • Be flexible - from time to time you may be required to stay late depending on the demands of individual matters.
  • Significant and current experience working as a Legal Secretary, preferably gained within a private client/family department

Technical skills

  • Proven IT (Microsoft Office) and audio typing skills
  • Experience using case management systems
  • Accuracy and speed
  • Proof reading, checking for spelling and grammar
  • Knowledge of PDF Document Bundling

You may have a secretarial qualification, although this is not essential. You will have a good standard of education to at least O Level/GCSE

We offer a competitive salary, depending on level of experience and ability.

Other benefits include:

· We offer an annual holiday entitlement of 30 days per annum that includes 22 bookable days and bank holidays, and additional days for the closure of the office over the Christmas period (usually 3 days). The annual holiday entitlement is pro-rated for part time staff.

· We are able to offer a Scottish Widows staff pension scheme which you will be auto-enrolled after you have completed 3 months service with us. Employees must contribute a minimum of 5% and the firm will contribute 3%.

· We offer a Health Cash Plan scheme upon completion of 6 months service with us.
