Top Job recruitment are currently seeking a Health and Safety Officer to support the creation and delivery of health and safety procedures and policies within the business. This role is base in Braintree with some travel to sites in Essex and Suffolk as required to fulfil the role.Working form home optional with full IT equipment provided.

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 37 per week Monday to Friday 9am-5pm

Salary: Circa £31k

The Role

  • You will work in collaboration across team boundaries to develop, execute, and monitor the health and safety management framework.
  • You will advise the business on statutory health, safety and environmental requirements that affect operations and services and provide assurance to key stakeholders on adherence to law.
  • You will work with colleagues to develop health and safety management plans, policies and procedures.
  • You will engage with all aspects of the business to embed a culture that ensures everyone is able to return to their family and friends unharmed and well every day.
  • You will ensure that adequate training programs are in place to provide staff with the competence required to work safely.
  • You will be responsible for supporting the review, maintenance and creation of policies and procedures.
  • You will help the organisation evaluate and understand practices, procedures and facilities; to assess risk and adherence to the law and provide support and best practice solutions.
  • You will monitor health, safety and environmental performance, supporting the drive for continuous improvement. Reporting on accidents, near misses and RIDDOR as appropriate.
  • You will engage with external agencies and partners to share and improve knowledge and best practice.
  • You will co-ordinate the identification of operational and regulatory risks, escalating as appropriate and provide competent advice and recommendations and monitor completion of actions arising.
  • You will identify and understand the health, safety, environmental and associated legal requirements that are relevant to the work of the business and support the relevant teams to comply with these.
  • You will carry out/coordinate site inspections as appropriate to assess adherence to policies and procedures and provide in situ advice and support.
  • You will develop appropriate communications to improve corporate understanding and actively promote issues regarding health, safety and the environment.
  • You will deliver presentations to managers and their teams to confirm understanding and improve collective and individual ownership of health and safety.
  • You will support and where necessary lead accident and incident investigation, utilising root cause analysis and provide advice to operational teams on effective preventative measures to reduce risk and monitor the implementation of action plans to resolve issues.
  • You will provide concise, factual and accurate management information to enable effective decisions and improvements to be made.
  • You will support the Health and safety committee as required.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General certificate or equivalent (NEBOSH diploma or equivalent level 5 qualification in Occupational Health and Safety)
  • Tech IOSH minimum
  • Demonstrable experience in a health and safety role which has provided you with a deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines and how to embed a culture of health and safety and wellbeing.
  • Experience in issuing, following up and closing corrective actions.
  • Knowledge and experience of opertatonal activities within the housing sector, including building construction and design and health and safety implications including CDM (Construction, Design and Management)processes and requirements.
  • Practical experience of supporting the production of procedures, risk assessments, method statements, construction phase plans, waste management plans, construction based health and safety documentation and health and safety as it relates to commercial premises.
