Senior Operations Manager
Location: Primarily based between Chelmsford and Wickford, with occasional UK-wide travel
Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum
Our client, a leading provider of bespoke communication solutions, is seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Operations Manager to take ownership of their logistics and operational functions. This is a pivotal role for a strategic thinker who is confident stepping into an existing setup, asking the right questions, and quickly gaining clarity on how the business operates.
The ideal candidate will bring strong logistics and systems expertise, a keen operational mindset, and a proven ability to lead teams and drive continuous improvement across warehousing, fulfilment, and CRM integration.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Operations
- Lead and oversee end-to-end logistics and warehouse operations—from inbound receiving to outbound order fulfilment.
- Develop and implement operational strategies that improve efficiency, lower costs, and raise service standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Procurement, and Technical teams to align logistics and CRM data with broader business goals.
Warehouse & Inventory Management
- Optimise warehouse layout, workflows, and space utilisation for increased productivity.
- Ensure accurate inventory control via audits, cycle counts, and system accuracy.
- Enforce safety, compliance, and cleanliness standards consistently.
Logistics & Fulfilment
- Manage both domestic and international shipping logistics, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Maintain strong relationships with logistics providers; oversee contracts and service level agreements (SLAs).
- Supervise product returns, repairs, and reverse logistics processes.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and develop logistics and warehouse teams, including supervisors and operations staff.
- Establish clear performance goals, monitor KPIs, and provide coaching and feedback.
- Foster a culture of accountability, high performance, and safety.
CRM Ownership & Integration
- Act as the business owner of the CRM, ensuring data accuracy and operational relevance.
- Partner with internal departments to streamline CRM workflows and ensure effective usage.
- Leverage CRM insights to enhance order processing, customer communication, and operational forecasting.
- Lead training initiatives and promote CRM adoption across teams.
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify and implement process enhancements to streamline operations.
- Evaluate and deploy technology tools that boost operational effectiveness.
- Ensure seamless integration of systems including inventory management and customer data platforms.
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in logistics, warehouse operations, or supply chain management, including 2+ years in a senior leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience managing or overseeing CRM systems in an operational capacity.
- Background in technology, manufacturing, distribution, or similar sectors is essential.
- Deep understanding of logistics systems and warehouse operations tools.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate across departments.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to use data to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.
Additional Details
- Primary base of operations is between Chelmsford and Wickford.
- Occasional travel to other UK sites required (mileage and fuel expenses covered).
- Strong preference for candidates with experience in technology-driven environments
