COMPANY

Top Job are currently recruiting fora market leading organisation in the waste and recycling sector in Suffolk. They are engaged in general waste management and recycling services. With their own recycling (MRF) and transport facilities they offer a full and comprehensive waste management and recycling service. 

ROLE

As a Materials Recovery Facility Manager, you will be responsible for the day to day running of operations within the MRF area, ensuring compliance within government legislation regarding waste management, company policy and all aspects of health and safety within the MRF.

Duties to include:

•    Managing a team including machine operators and sort line operatives and liaising with EQHS, Transport and Admin/Sales Managers
•    Ensuring compliance with site licence and working plan
•    Monitoring working hours
•    Monitoring tonnages on daily basis and keeping records up to date
•    Maintaining high standards of service for discharging of waste from core fleet and third-party customers/suppliers
•    Ensure landfill diversion targets are met and maintained
•    Develop relationships with suppliers and customers
•    Conduct site tours for visitors to site
•    Manage all plant and equipment maintenance and liaise with third party contractors/visitors accordingly

The site operation involves both machine and manual segregation but there will also be some automation in the form of conveyors and baling equipment.

The site will deal with general waste which will be sorted - with recyclables being segregated - paper, plastics, metals, wood, cardboard, and the remainder sent to RFD/landfill tonnage of which should be minimised against target. 

You will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality product which will in turn mean that maximum value can be attained on the sale of the processed waste streams

You should be commercially aware and entrepreneurially minded in order to maximise the quality of the processed material for resale.

Due to the recent introduction of a new supplier contract, the facility currently operates a 2-shift system (06.00 – 1700hrs & 07.00 – 18.00hrs) with every Saturday 07.00-12.00hrs being worked.
 

EXPERIENCE

Previous experience in a waste management supervisory role is essential and experience with balers, sorting plant, forklift trucks, 360 rehandling equipment and loading shovels are also necessary.  In a previous position,  you may have worked in a MRF (materials recovery facility), waste transfer station, recycling plant, mechanical biological treatment plant or transfer loading station, Quarry, aggregates, clinical, hazardous, processing, production, plastics, metals, paper, card, glass etc.

You will be a strong manager and good leader, be able to work well under pressure and have the ability to motivate and develop a team. You will have a good level of IT literacy and possess excellent communication skills.

You MUST be committed to inspiring and enforcing a positive Health and Safety ethic within the team, IOSH & NEBOSH are therefore desirable but not essential.

A COTC4 (WAMITAB) qualification or working towards this qualification is also desirable but not essential as accreditation can be worked towards once in employment.
